Tapoco Lodge in Robbinsville, N.C.
We stumbled on Tapoco Lodge in Robbinsville, N.C., while driving Teresa’s little hot rod on the Tail of the Dragon back in the fall. Tapoco Lodge is situated just a few miles past Deals Gap motorcycle resort and the Fontana Dam in the mountain region of the Nantahala National Forest.
Tapoco Lodge sits on the banks of the Cheoah River and offers a unique river side dining experience that offers local catch for lunch and dinner. They have inside seating with a full service bar and where they bake their unique and homemade brick fired pizza pies, and they have outside seating both on a covered patio (where you see us seated–it was cool and there are heaters overhead!) and down on the ledge next to the river! As you can see in the pictures, they practice social distancing, which created a safe and somewhat more private dining experience for us.
If you are into motorcycle riding, this is a must visit destination. If you are planning to use their overnight accommodations, there are plenty of outdoor activities nearby such as hiking (on the 120 acre property) rafting and kayaking, and plenty of fishing locations.
For us, it was more about enjoying the lodge itself and watching the motorcycles cruise by from one of the balconies and enjoying the sunshine and a few adult bevies! Then, we opted to stay in the hillside cabins behind (and part of) Tapoco Lodge and enjoy what felt like a night of camping in one of the small, quaint log cabins with nearby outdoor fire pits perfect for smores with outdoor games and electing to avoid the T.V. altogether. Need to relax? Breathe a little? We recommend a trip to Robbinsville to check out the historic lodge, it will no doubt leave you saying “What-A-Weekend”
